Diane Putnam replied to Keith Burton:

So do I. I don't know if you have the term Rat Rod in the UK - that's just an old rusty car that is restored enough to run, but a clear coat is applied to the exterior and it looks like it was just driven out of a barn.

Keith Burton replied to Diane Putnam:

Yes, I think we have something similar here as well. A bit odd really.

Diane Putnam replied to Keith Burton:

I like seeing them, though I probably wouldn't like driving a rusty one around. I'd prefer a modest restoration paint job, period-appropriate, not metallic purple or fluorescent green.

GrahamH replied to Diane Putnam:

Some don't have the Charley Ash to do restoration but still enjoy getting round in their Classics.

Diane Putnam replied to GrahamH:

I don't know who Charley Ash is, but I know it costs thousands of dollars for a good paint job. That could be the main reason for the rat rod thing.
