You're doing a great job of documenting all these industries and businesses that have shut down. I assume that has meant job losses etc and a lot of social upheaval. So sad..!!
Well, it started in the '60s with the decline of the timber industry, which was a huge employer until then. So, Northern Californians and Southern Oregonians are accustomed to either having to move somewhere else or scramble for other work. It is not a region of high incomes, you might guess. However, the old potato farming and cattle ranching families are quite prosperous.
