The Angel of the North

We are on our way to Gateshead and Newcastle when we spot this wonderful sculpture. How could I ignore it.
The Angel of the North is a contemporary sculpture by Antony Gormley, located in Gateshead. Completed in 1998, it is seen by an estimated 33 million people every year due to its proximity to the A1 and A167 roads and the East Coast Main Line Railway. It is one of the most famous artworks in the region at 54 metre (175 foot) high and believed to be the largest angel sculpture in the world. pip

Enjoy the day.

It’s brilliant that this woman’s in the photo – it really gives you an idea of the extraordinary scale of this spectacular work of art.
Great post, Herb!

Herb Riddle replied to Jean-Paul:

It's often good with a structure to show a figure to give scale. I am very happy that you liked this one.

Herb Riddle replied to Stephan Fey:

In actual fact it does Stephan. Because of the colour it looks to be wood but is not. It is on a hill and can be seen from miles away but it still looks quite good. My pleasure to share.

A very impressive shot of this iconic landmark Herb. It looks magnificent against the sky. I love the rusty colour of the metal work and the detail you've captured is excellent, especially when viewed large.

Great to see a person in the shot for scale..!!

A lovely PiP too.
