Messing about on the river.

We are just outside Durham here, on the River Wear. A good place to take a canoe or paddle board for miles of fun on the water. Notice the smoke in the near distance as it creeps into this river area. The smoke created by a nearby wheat field going up in flames. At the moment it does not concern these children or the dog but it was to get worse.

Yes, it is doing a good job there. I think older sister perhaps is doing the same.

Best wishes Lothar. Herbert

Herb Riddle replied to Günter Klaus:

This kind of river scene is quite alien to me Güni. To the right here was an outdoor activity centre where I suspect one could hire these crafts. Glad you like it.

Best Wishes. Herbert

It looks very relaxed and peaceful but obviously it was a treacherous idyll!
We had the same in Germany, agricultural machinery overheats, one spark and the field goes up in flames:-(

Herb Riddle replied to Gudrun:

As it happened, all turned out well in the end for these river adventurers. Before that though a huge black smelly cloud dropped over this whole area and so people near the smoke would have made a hasty retreat. We on the other hand walked the opposite way for an hour before coming along here again to see the devastation. It was thought that the fire was caused by vandals.

Keep cool. Herb

It's lovely to see people out enjoying themselves, especially in a beautiful place like this. Nicely composed in lovely light, especially the light on the water. The overhanging trees are gorgeous and I like the reflections.

Paddle boarding has become very popular nowadays, but it's good to see some people in canoes too.

Dangerous times at the moment with all the wild fires we're hearing and seeing on the news! I hope no one was injured or worse in this one!

Herb Riddle replied to Keith Burton:

Yes, this river scene is quite alien to me. Surrounded by lush woodland and such a clean river too. The nearest would be the rivers Mersey and irwell but they are not like this.

Agreed there seems to be a lot of paddle boards about now and I would not mind having a go.

Many fires this year wit the forest in Scotland and morland all around me here but elsewhere in Britain too. - I don't think there were any real casualties with the fire (which I shall show later) but some rather exhausted firemen.

Keep sage and cool. Herb
