Manchester today

Over the past ten years the face of my closest city has changed dramatically. Looking like downtown Manhattan these skyscrapers are going up at an alarming rate. To the left is the side of our Bridgewater Hall concert venue (where I am just going). Of course the local Bee service trams whizz around here everywhere.

Enjoy the day

Herb Riddle replied to TOZ:

Glad you liked this Gordon. Manchester is well worth a visit, maybe we can do that together at some time. We were in fact visiting the Bridgewater Hall to see 'The Nutcracker' ballet. A most pleasant experience. This camera snap was taken in a hurry as we crossed the road with little time to spare before the start. I was amazed at seeing these skyscrapers like this as I am sure they were not there the last time I looked :)

Stay healthy and safe in this cold weather my friend. Herb

An impressive cityscape, Herb. It's good to see a couple of the smaller older buildings still there among all the vertical glass buildings. Unfortunately, it seems that skyscrapers have become a global norm.

That's quite an impressive looking skyline Herb.........had you not given the location I might have guessed you were somewhere in the USA.

The tall architecture looks great in the sunshine..........and there are lots of different lines, shapes and reflections to look at, especially when viewed large!

Whether you like it or not, you can't deny it's eye catching!

Beautifully captured, especially as a "grab" shot as you explained to TOZ!!

Herb Riddle replied to Keith Burton:

Thanks for this Keith. As you say, looking more like the USA that Manchester for sure. Not quite as enjoyable to me as a good landscape but better than some bad ones.

The rampant construction and the same in every city in the world
What a lack of imagination!
Thanks for sharing, Herb!

Herb Riddle replied to J.Garcia:

I wonder who then is to blame. The architects or the town planners. I have heard no complaints from the people of Manchester but then with no proper newspapers anymore, that's no surprise either. As I said to Keith above "not quite as enjoyable to me as a good landscape but better than some bad ones." That is the way of the world nowadays.

A really outstanding capture and scene Herb,.. and as you point out 'changed dramatically' - I would never have guessed that this was Manchester,.. must admit though it definitely looks top class,. and I would think there must be a need for these building programmes,. // Cheers'.. from Dj.
