Sea erosion at work

Another look at the beach of Happisburgh showin the erosion of the soft cliffs here. See the trees collapsing down the cliff face. After each storm more will fall as the cliffs recede inland.

The Pip shows a scene from the top a bit further along with these drainage pipes now sitting in mid-air.

I remember Happisburgh looking much more like the PiP, Herb.

Herb Riddle replied to Amelia:

I think this main picture is taken just north of the main area.

Hi Lothar. The inhabitants of this part of Norfolk can testify to all that,

Buenas tomas.

Herb Riddle replied to Marije Aguillo:

Thanks for this Marije. Yes many parts of the world bear witness to the rising sea's. The cliffs here are very soft and so go rapidly.

An intersting and worrying image. It makes me wonder what the East Anglian coast will look like in a hundred years or so. Well done

Herb Riddle replied to JayOh (John Owles):

I imaging the much of this coast may have come inland by as much as 100 yards by then John. They have tried to fight it here but with limited success.

Well taken and concerning, Herb, as this seems to be such a widespread problem. The pipes in the PiP really define the extent.

Herb Riddle replied to TOZ:

Yes we see that here but also in other places. I don't think I have seen quite so much on the Yorkshire coast though.

The sea seems to be winning the battle here Herb.......it's easy to see from this shot how eroded the cliffs are!

Nevertheless, this is a lovely image, nicely detailed throughout and captured in nice light.

An interesting PiP too.

Herb Riddle replied to Keith Burton:

My thanks Keith. Yes the land is losing here for sure and some people have suffered a lot. Great that you liked the light, which to be honest was my main concern with this main photo.

Best Wishes. Herb
