HBM ~ All tied up!

Just a about 75 meters from our holiday rental was this private staith. This would originally have been a landing spot for the local windmill, (once at our lodgings here), bringing corn and taking away flour but like many other such places, somebodies private domain now. We were informed that we could freely roam around here but quickly spotted the un-welcome signs.

PS, A "staith" is a structure, or a place, used for loading and unloading cargo, especially coal, from ships or other vessels. Historically, it was an elevated platform or staging, often built on a riverbank, that allowed for the transfer of materials from railway cars or other transport directly into ships. The word has also been used more generally to refer to a riverbank or a landing stage.

Have a great day.

Hi David, always good to see you here. Some updated info here now. This would originally have been a landing spot for the local windmill, (once at our lodgings here), bringing corn and taking away flour.

HBM, enjoy the day. Herb

Great info, Herb. Is there any connection to Staithes in North Yorkshire, or is it just a coincidence of name? Whatever, HBM and thanks for the picture. Have a great week.

What a quaint place. Am I right in seeing that the bench is on a leash?;-))) HBM Herb.

Herb Riddle replied to Christa1004:

Hi Christa. I know it looks that way but the 'leash' is actually a water-hose pipe -no doubt just resting there.

HBM, enjoy the day. Herb

Herb Riddle replied to TOZ:

Hi Gordon. There would not be many boats to be seen in this actual staith now as it was technically in someone's garden. Yes the first signs of autumn is showing here in this light.

HBM, enjoy the day. Herb
