At home on the Broads.

A holiday to the Norfolk Broads is quite different from the holidays we usually make. We are actually staying in an apartment just minutes away from here near Wroxam. It is quit usual to see cruise boats and yachts as we walk on the paths that line some of the adjoining rivers to the many small broads. We are walking alongside the River Bure here. The first PiP shows the view from our apartment window.

“The Norfolk Broads (often just called the Broads) are a network of rivers and lakes (called broads) located mainly in the counties of Norfolk and Suffolk in eastern England.
They’re a national park and protected wetland area, famous for:
• Rivers & Broads: About 200 km (125 miles) of navigable waterways formed from medieval peat diggings that later flooded.
• Wildlife: A haven for rare birds, fish, and plants. Species like the bittern, swallowtail butterfly, and otters thrive there.
• Boating: The area is very popular for holidays, especially with hire boats, yachts, and canoes.
• Scenery: Open water, marshland, reed beds, windmills, and picturesque villages.
The main rivers are the Bure, Yare, Waveney, Ant, and Thurne, which connect to various broads (lakes). Towns like Wroxham (often called the "capital of the Broads") and Horning are popular hubs.” ChatGPT

Have a good day.

Thanks for this Gordon. We have in fact been to the Norfolk on several occasions and I have had two one week boating holidays on there too. A great county, even without the broads as it has a most interesting coastline as well. I took a lot of photos on this trip that should keep me going several months on here :)

Best Wishes. Herb

It's looks like you had superb weather for a change Herb :-)

I've never been to that part of the country, but it seems like a wonderful place to visit according to your narrative.

I like your main image........a gorgeous blue sky, lovely light, especially on the water and some lovely boats. The trees on either side are just beautiful.

Two lovely PiPs as well, especially the second PiP with its great framing.

I hope you had a relaxing time..........and no doubt we'll be seeing more photos of your trip soon (I hope)..!!

Herb Riddle replied to Keith Burton:

Yes the weather was superb with only a couple of wet days. We are not used to blue skies but I have to admit that this year we have had more than usual. A wonderful place to explore but like all these places nowadays very busy with tourist. that being said, one can still find quite corners. I would say the trip was more busy than relaxing but that we did on a full day of rain. Glad you liked these. See my comment to Toz above for more info.

Fantastic, Herb. This picture just captures the mood of the broads. I went on a boat trip on them last year and the wildlife was fantastic too!

I spent over 40 years trying to persuade other Canadians to visit Norfolk, but I guess clear skies, bracingly fresh air, natural beauty, fine architecture, etc., weren't what they were looking for. My aunt and uncle lived in Horning for a while; the riverside there is besutifully tranquil (and tranquilly beautiful) of a summer evening.
