Glenfinnan Viaduct- a study!
Glenfinnan Viaduct- a study!
In November 2016 we had the pleasure to wander and sit by this viaduct for some time waiting for the famous Jacobite steam train. We were to be rewarded but now almost ten years later I see that I omitted to share some of my other photos of it here on Ipernity. Here is a capture from below the viaduct. No train but sixteen lovely arches of the total twenty one along the 416 yard (380m) length. They span 50 feet each and have a highest height of 100 feet. The weather was to turn much better with clear blue skies but this sky sets the tone here.
The Glenfinnan Viaduct is a famous Victorian-era railway bridge in Scotland, known for its 21 arches, use of mass concrete, and iconic appearances in the Harry Potter films as the Hogwarts Express's route. Built by Robert McAlpine & Sons and completed in 1901, it carries the West Highland Line over the River Finnan, offering views of a picturesque landscape
