Gorey, Jersey

Gorey s described as a relaxed fishing village with its pastel coloured cottages and alfresco restaurants, all overlooked by the medieval battlements of Mont Orgueil castle. PiP

We were to walk north along the seashore from here to its neighbour St Catherine.

The castle was first referred to as 'Mont Orgeuil' in an ordnance survey made in 1462, when the castle was under French occupation in the Late Middle Ages.  The castle was the seat of royal authority on Jersey throughout the medieval period and served as the main fortress on the Island until the construction of Elizabeth Castle in 1594 at St Helier.

A lovely view............very nicely captured Herb. However, I prefer the image in the PiP and have confined most of my comments to that.

Herb Riddle replied to TOZ:

Yes, we walked on the landward side of its walls but it was way too expensive to venture inside for an hour so ventured forward to our next spot.

Cheers. Herb
