Lapwing sightings
To accompany my previous posting of lapwings over Harrop Edge here we have two more captures. The main photo shows how they look on the ground which is quite different from when they are in the air. So much so that it is hardly believable that it is the same bird. We see here (on higher magnification) the distinctive crown plumage.
Lapwing: Vanellus vanellus, also known as the peewit in imitation of its display calls, its common name describes its wavering flight. Its black-and-white appearance and round-winged shape in flight make it distinctive, even without its splendid crest. This familiar Farmland, bird has suffered significant declines recently and is now a Red List species.

I hadn't realised they were on the Red List until they mentioned it on Springwatch the other evening. Such a shame as they used to be pretty common down here!
Have a good week and take care!
