Linzer Torte in Linz

A well know favourite cake throughout the German speaking parts of Europe. We are having a snack here high above the Austrian city of Linz and so a slice of this torte was quite essential – of course with Kaffee too. The original recipe was said to have originated by a relative of this café owner, down in the city below.

“Linzer Torte originated in the historic city of Linz, Austria, and has evolved over the centuries to become a delightful and cherished specialty of international pastry. Its culinary legacy lives on today, celebrating tradition and creativity in the kitchen. Originally, the Linzer Torte was made with hazelnut flour and filled with currant jam. As ingredients became more accessible and varied, ground almonds started being used in the crust, and red fruit jam became the more common filling”

Enjoy the day.

My mouth's watering Herb!
My only brush with Linz the city was in 1973 when we were hitch-hiking back to the UK from Vienna.

Coffee and cake is my kind of snack Herb..!!

Your half eaten cake makes a splendid still life image my friend, and I like how you've left the fork and crumbs on the plate. The light and shadows are lovely too. I suspect it didn't last long after you took the photo.

Beautiful work sir ⭐️

It was nice to get another look at the photos in the PiPs too :-)

Herb Riddle replied to Keith Burton:

Once again your comment here does me great credit Keith. In taking this, I only meant it as a part documentary of our trip up here but I saw only yesterday that it made a fine still-life in its own right. It was quite delicious and went down well with the coffee and fresh cream. I omitted to mention that beforehand I had also eaten a 'bock wurst mit brot' at the same table (perhaps I should have photographed that too. :) So all in all a pleasant little lunchtime meal. Many thanks for the star.

Best Wishes. Herb
