Melk Abbey

As we find ourselves in this splendid entrance court-yard, already the light is going lower reminding us of returning to our waiting boat on the Danube River below the town. See PiP (last photo) for alternative view.

“Melk Abbey is one of the most beautiful and largest unified Baroque ensembles in Europe. Its magnificent architecture is known worldwide and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The baroque building (1702 - 1739) on a rock above the Danube is one of the most visited art-historical sites in Austria.” The Abbey is home to 22 Benedictine Monks as well as being a school with 900 students.

Herb Riddle replied to TOZ:

It was a great place, we were only sad tat we did not have the time to see more of it. I believe the church itself in here is quite marvellous.

Lovely light and shadows Herb and impressive architecture. The fountain is beautiful too. Very nicely captured.

The PiP is superb..........and my favourite of the two shots. I've commented on it separately.

Herb Riddle replied to Keith Burton:

Thanks Keith. Yes, I liked the light on here too. Missing on my next in time picture (here on my previous page.) I thought the gold water reflections from the walls looked nice on here. Glad you liked both shots really.

Hi Herb
I like this picture very much!
It is a very different and exciting composition, especially the fountain in the middle.
I had not heard of this before, so I had a look om Google. It is huge! So, I guess that you made the best of it in what light you had. The V shape shadow works really well!
Best Wishes, HWW,, and stay safe!!

Herb Riddle replied to Peter_Private_Box:

Hi Peter, always great to see you here. Yes, a most impressive structure for sure but we missed the jewel, ie the actual church interior. We only had about 2 hours in total and since we had not booked a trip with transport we had to walk first to the village and then through that and up to the Abbey. All from the main part of the Danube a little distance away. Glad it encouraged you to look further and that you enjoyed what you saw here.

Cheers. Herb
