Loch Cluanie

We are at the south-east end of Glen Shiel now on the banks of Loch Cluanie looking west. As can be seen, quite a deserted place really.
It is in fact a reservoir contained behind the Cluanie Dam which is part of the North of Scotland Hydro-Electricity Board’s Glenmoriston project. It is 36km long but quite shallow having only a maximum depth of 37 m and a mean depth of 15 m with a surface area of 1046 ha.

Herb Riddle replied to David G Johnson:

Always glad to be of service David. A delightful day of landscape photography that was to be short lived as we drove south. Great that you enjoyed another of my latest Scottish tours.

Herb Riddle replied to TOZ:

You will have been near here yourself Gordon whilst you were climbing the mountains of Kintail and so you know its beauty. I guess it would look quite different in other seasons and times. Cheers for the star.

Shallow or not Herb..........that's one helluva lot of water..!!

The light in this shot is gorgeous, both in the sky and where it is reflected on the water surface. I love the misty peaks in the background and the more defined bits of landscape nearer to the camera. The foreground is really lovely with the grasses and rocks.

Beautifully composed and taken sir!

Herb Riddle replied to Keith Burton:

As you say Keith, a helluva lot of water in here. Always good that you continue to enjoy my landscape sightings that I endeavour to bring here in the best quality. Light is everything as we both know but a good view helps.

Cheers. Herb
