Port-an-Eorna

A short walk from the Durinish railway halt towards the sea we come to this most wonderful spot. We are looking over the waters of the ‘Inner Sound’ towards the Applecross Peninsular. The light brown rowing boat was a real bonus for me. Hopefully for you too.

The submerged rail tracks are lovely lead in line to the boat. A superbly tranquil place, Herb.

Herb Riddle replied to Amelia:

Thanks Amelia and although the lines do look like railway tracks I am pretty sure they were just ropes -no doubt intended for small boat moorings. It was a wonderous spot that I could have spent many hours there.

Herb Riddle replied to TOZ:

A truly wonderful spot here Gordon. Even a picnic bench which I shall share soon. One could take a hundred photos here and still not be satisfied and so my short stay was soon curtailed by heavy clouds again. You will certainly see more from this small bay, Glad you enjoyed it too.

Wide angle works really well with this photo Herb. The boat really does set up the shot perfectly. Beautiful tranquil scene.

Herb Riddle replied to Ed Synchro:

Thanks Ed. Yes my 11mm Tokina was perfect for a shot like this but I took a few with longer lenses too. The boat was a gift! Glad you liked it.

Herb Riddle replied to Roger (Grisly):

Hi Roger thanks for this but it is not in the NC500 group as it was taken below Plockton and not on that route. I see that I have entered it into the your Landscape group though. Glad you liked it.

A nicely proportioned composition here Herb.............I really like the sky and cloud formations and the light is gorgeous. The water looks really clean and clear.

The red rowing boat stands out well...........and draws the eye very nicely to the tiny island with the greenery on it. I'm assuming that the leading lines are it's mooring ropes.

Beautifully done..!!

Herb Riddle replied to Keith Burton:

Thanks for another edifying comment Keith. This is the west coast of Scotland and as you well know -the water is pretty clean up there normally. All the ingredients worked out well for me here. Yes the lines were the mooring ropes as you surmise. After hours of thick cloud we at last saw some blue sky at the right moment. It was soon to disappear again though.

Cheers and keep good. Herb
