Plockton in the style of Constable

On visiting this beautiful village the weather was overcast grey but at least dry. The village itself is mainly based on three streets along the shore of Loch Carron. The real beauty of the village lies with its situation and views over the water and Islands to the soft and rugged landscape beyond. So here is my contribution showing a slightly arty painterly effect over the low tide of the loch.
The paintings of John Constable have slightly exaggerated colours and contrast that convey a real feeling as I hope to have done here too. A great pity that there is no sea-otter here with its caught fish dinner.
Plockton has a population of around 500 and is situated in the Lochalsh, Wester Ross area of the Scottish Highlands.
See PiP, previous photo, for real frontage view of the village.

This is very interesting. As someone who suffers living under the clouds day after day I have forgotten that this is a way to lift the spirits a little. Thank you

Herb Riddle replied to Colin Ashcroft:

Thanks most sincerely for this Colin. Yes, you like me know what it is like to live under constant grey and wet skies. Funny enough, I have another shot from almost the same place taken 20+ years back and it looks almost identical weather. Anyway, I am very happy that this lifted your spirits a little and I hope like an hour or so after taking this the sun shines again for us here in the NW.

Best Wishes. Herb

Herb Riddle replied to TOZ:

Very happy that you have enjoyed this landscape Gordon. I should have a go at painting it for real. As you know, I try normally to get my photos as 'live' as possible but sometimes nature has to be given a lift :) You would like Plockton, I know. Its more northerly sister village of Applecross is another fine village with views but we never got there on this trip. Cheers for the star.

I think you've done a great job with this scene Herb...........and have definitely achieved a very attractive and painterly look.

I actually like the sky in this shot.........and the light is lovely too. The slightly misty background adds atmosphere. I love the tiny island.

Very well composed and taken..!!

Herb Riddle replied to Keith Burton:

Cheers for this Keith. The view was the same as shot but the lighting somewhat flatter and uninteresting which seemed a shame as I know this spot can be most rewarding. Glad you liked my helping hand here, Ironically a couple of hours later the skies turned blue but we were away by then.
