Herb Riddle replied to Steve Paxton:

I would really miss the humble bumble bee in your country Steve. I think you have hornets -no contest!

I love the light, Herb, and I love the very effective shallow depth of field. Have a great weekend. All the best, Joe

Herb Riddle replied to Joe, Son of the Rock:

Glad you liked this one Joe. Yes, that differential focusing on here is quite good at this range. Nice for me to have a bit of colour instead of those drab grey's I see so much on my travels.

Herb Riddle replied to Günter Klaus:

Thanks Güni. We have quite lot of this in our garden and so at this time of year see many bees. They are always a delight to watch and are normally quite safe to get quite close up to.

Best Wishes. Herb

Beautiful close-up images, Herb. Following on Steve's comment, I think Tasmania is the only Australian State with (imported) bumble bees.

Thanks for this George. I am sure you are right.

Such a nicely-timed shot Herb................I really like the look and colour of the flower and the bee is beautiful, especially with the blurred wings giving a great sense of movement.

I especially like the image in the PiP...........the detail in the bee on the flower is just superb.

Great stuff sir **********

Herb Riddle replied to Keith Burton:

Thanks Keith. I had hoped that you would have liked these two as a lover of close up photographer yourself. If you look at the shutter speed here, it is 1/1600 and so just how fast are those wings flapping? I too like the other picture.

Cheers for the accolade. Herb

Keith Burton replied to Herb Riddle:

It's good to get a super-sharp image when the bee has landed.........as you have in your PiP, but when it's in flight, the blurred wings make it look much more natural.
