Crompton waterfall

We think we know where we live and then suddenly we discover an area of beauty that we had no idea existed until a day or so back. That is the case for today’s winter walk in an area called ‘Crompton Moor’. Only a 20 minute drive from my door, it incorporates an old coal and sandstone quarry, wonderful paths though wooded and moorland scenery and a pleasant small reservoir. Here is the Pingot Quarry scene. I believe this is most spectacular after heavy rains but at the moment I am enjoying the iced grass cascades.

Best at full screen.

Enjoy the day.

Herb Riddle replied to David G Johnson:

Thanks David. I have mapped this for you now too. A 3.5mile round walk here for us but that could have been extended through moorland or wooded paths. Very exciting but I was glad of the frozen ground as many of the paths looked to have deep imprints of footfall in the soft mud that usually prevails around here.

Herb Riddle replied to TOZ:

Haha, I don't blame you Gordon. We will have to arrange another day together incorporating this walk. Glad you liked it as this capture reminded me of some of your waterfalls too.

C'est vrai que des fois on est surpris de voir de belles choses qu'on a jamais rencontré et pourtant elles existaient bien et a coté d chez nous.
Bonne et agréable soirée.

Such a striking image Herb..!!

I love the earthy colour palette and the fantastic detail in the cliff walls including the water trails and the ice-covered grasses. The patch of blue sky and trees looks fantastic.

Ace work sir!

Herb Riddle replied to Keith Burton:

Like you Keith I too love the colours on here. Up close it was sensational and I took a lot of photos but liked this the best. I know the almost square format is unusual for a waterfall but it seems to fit perfectly as it included more of the top interesting tree line and rocks. The ice was a real bonus as was that nice lighting hitting the topmost trees.
