Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia

At 26 miles from Halifax this little community boast a little harbour, a wonderful red painted church and an outstanding outlook. We see here the core of the fishing village with the church in the background. The name is likely named after St Margaret’s Bay, in which this lies - Peggy being the nickname for Margaret. Today it is still an active fishing village and a favourite tourist destination. On our trip here we saw few signs of the normal tourist trappings as the provincial government have strict land-use regulations in the vicinity of Peggy's Cove, with most property development being prohibited. Similarly there are restrictions on who can live in the community to prevent inflation of property values for year-round residents.

Herb Riddle replied to TOZ:

Hi Gordon, in actual fact we only had about 1.5 hours here and the first half was taken up here around the little harbour area. The second part was near the lighthouse so yeas a lot of photos but most very similar as I could not experiment and run around like I would have liked.

Glad you liked this.

One of those very delightful images Herb. Love it. My daughter has wanted to visit Canada ever since she read "Anne of Green Gables" as a child. She has been to USA a few times but never made it over the border.

Have a good day, Rosa.

Herb Riddle replied to Rosalyn Hilborne:

Always glad that you enjoy my travel photos Rosa. I don't know if you know this, but Prince Edward Island (where Anne of Green Gables was set) is only about 110 miles away (as the crow flies) from where our ship was docked in Halifax.

Würde mir auch gefallen, mag nicht die überlaufenden Urlaubsorte. Sie scheinen diese Ruhe auch zu mögen

A lovely image, Herb, taking me back to a visit there some years ago. It's great that the local government are avoiding all the usual "development" leading to a "standard tourism" result.

Herb Riddle replied to tiabunna:

Ah, I might have guessed that you too would have visited this extraordinary spot. I know that you have visited many places looking a little like this though. Yes, if it would have been here in England, big hotels and kiss-me-quick hats would have been a major feature. Glad you liked this and it brought back memories George.

Keep good. Herb
