Chalice Nebula NGC 2018

This is a part of the Large Magellanic Cloud one I have never tried before. In the shot below it to the right on the top part of the shot.

Large Magellanic Cloud area :- Do look at this as large as you can

This is the second target with the Starpoint Australis SP3 This is my second camera QHY183C. A target I have never shot before and thought a good trial for the focuser on the smaller sensor camera. The focuser I just carried on as If I have been using the SP3 for the last three years. I did not bother to do a first up focus to see if it was OK , I just pressed Play.

The focuser worked perfectly all night long all three nights we had very heavy smoke the last two clear night. This is 120 shots. On the strength of what I see I will put the mono camera and filter wheel on the focal train , Stay tuned...

That's fantastic Steve. A lot of work, but so worth the result.

Steve Paxton replied to Chris Bowness:

This is a lot of work just for a photo, what I have only just started is even more work using filters and a Mono camera the results are even more interesting.

Another exceptional take here Steve. Just wait till you get the new focuser going properly too. Well done.

Cheers. Herb

Steve Paxton replied to Herb Riddle:

The focuser is well and truly showing its worth, getting the offsets done this time was so easy the old focuser was a real chore. The wonky curves and more often than not have to even refocus but this one went straight through with perfect curves. The end result sadly you will have to wait till the clouds pass to see. many thanks for the comment.

Hi Steve
A wonderful and interesting picture, which I like very much!
Very nice display of your technical skill.
I wish I had your patience to invest hours of work in one picture.
Best Wishes, Happy Monday, a nice week ahead, and stay safe!!
Peter

PS, did you get to see A3 comet? I looked in your gallery, but couldn't find.

Steve Paxton replied to Peter_Private_Box:

Peter I have gone out but never seen it but we did have quite a bit of clouds a real killer for anything astro. I wait for another chance and to get the Arora colours as well lost behind clouds missed the first few day working. Always another day.... Thanks.
