Late in the Night - Early morning.

by Steve Paxton
The night was a total disappointment nothing worked the way it should. i saw the bow was very high but had to have a go. With the wrong tripod head I tried to make it into a normal head I would use to shoot a Milky Way Bow.

This is a tracked shot @ 30 seconds where as I am shooting 20 sec - 25 sec for my normal Bows.

it was cold just me stars and kangaroos.

Pips are all the deep space photos from the sky this time of year.

I really need to try this some day! I just need to get to some darker location in countryside.

Yes you need a dark space but these days you can shoot almost any where with a filter. It was so nice to get in the car I was shivering that cold 11c. winters on the way.

thanks George i was not sure how it was going to turn out as I did it with the tracker as well as I did not have the head I normally use but very happy with the result. the right time of year for me..

Steve Paxton replied to Ko Hummel:

ko I am fast believing that the tracker is not going to do what I wanted as we just can not line up, I am in the wrong hemisphere. I have been told a few ways and have all come down to this- they are all loosely in the area of alignment but never 100%. I can not get an exposure close to a Minuet unless its a 14mm lens trying to get detail by longer times is never going to happen I am only ever going to get 20 second shots or less and making it a whole lot harder at the 600mm end to get a shot.

Still I am looking for a workable answer, this nights shot 90 degrees to the tracker where a mess. I turned back to my old skill of getting the bow but in this case on the tracker took some setting up but it did work and I was able to use the full 30sec of the camera timer. No real perceivable movement on the ground either which was my worry. never ceases to amaze me the clear nights under the stars.

Ko Hummel replied to Steve Paxton:

what I often do is take a lot of say 30 seconds exposures (tracking the object) and combine them afterwards. I agree, even if I do the tracking with my telescope, it is never 100% so combining a number of exposures is helpfull

Very Tired but very happy

Ko Hummel replied to Steve Paxton:

I know that feeling. Last night it was clear but cold, got some succes on M101 (the previous time only 9 exposures) with 60 good exposures.

Well worth a look back at some history and what I can see in the Southern part of the world.
