These are black vultures - Coragyps atratus. They are a little smaller than turkey vultures and don't go north as far as the turkey vultures. They also don't soar as well as turkey vultures. We have both species here in the winter. There are always some of them here year-round. I put a link to the Wikipedia article about them below the photo.
