Excellent !

We have here a bamboo cane sized version. The Native Americans used to make baskets of it. I use it for stakes and have also make natural trellises of it..

Yes, it's a very useful plant. You probably have a type of Arundinaria. This one is Phyllostachys nigra 'Henonis'. I was rather obsessed with bamboo some years ago, but now I mostly let it grow and use it for making simple things.

I am thinking of covering a gap in the fence with bamboo plants about 6-8 feet in length 5 feet high., I hope it grows robustly rather than us having to wait a couple of years before it becomes effective.

There are many species of bamboo. Read about them to find species that are suitable for your area. Best wishes.

Wow, great shot and a unique perspective! I'm going to find a hardy, clumping one for a big pot. I know there are a couple of them suitable for cold winters (RSDA Zone 5).
