Fountains Abbey from the water meadows
The water meadows were covered in buttercups, but also there was speedwell, yellow rattle, lady's smock etc. Perfect. We were lucky that we got there early before the crowds, and the melting heat.
Fountains Abbey is a ruined Cistercian monastery near Ripon in North Yorkshire, England. It was founded in 1132, the monastery was dissolved in 1539 as part of the English Reformation. Even in its current state, Fountains is described by Historic England as "the best preserved of English abbeys and the finest picturesque ruin.
The abbey is a Grade I listed building owned by the National Trust and is part of the designated Studley Royal Park including the Ruins of Fountains Abbey UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It looks wonderful against the blue sky, especially when viewed large, and you've captured the architectural detail beautifully.
I like the surrounding landscape too.........the buttercups, in particular, stand out.
A fabulous shot Amelia!
