Tiger Moth

Sunday challenge 186: Free subject

When I left school at 18, I got a job with the Institute of Aviation Medicine, the IAM, a subdivision of the RAE, the royal Aircraft Establishment. Everything was exciting in those days, and I joined the gliding club which met at weekends on the airfield. The glider was towed using either a Jaguar car or a Tiger Moth. I have been in the latter several times, towing a glider, and actually have taken the controls for a short time. Both the gliding and the Tiger Moth expriences live in my memory, and I often wonder how I was such a daredevil. These days I'm just an old lady with a camera. ;-)

The narrative under the photogrpah, Amelai, persudes me you may be a reincarnation of Amelia Earhart. LOL. The Tiger Moth looks amazing. The struts of the plane resonate perfectly with the architecture above. I hope you have an excellent new week. Kindest regards, Joe

A great photograph, and a very interesting bit of personal history that not many people would ever experience. I'm sure we'd all love to hear more about your past adventures!

Hats off to you! As a child I never wanted to fly in the glider with my father and I remember boring Sundays in the clubhouse at the airfield;-)

Such a beautiful aircraft.........and you've captured it from a clever perspective. I love the colour of its paintwork.

The image in the PiP is very striking!

Two lovely photos Amelia........and a fascinating glimpse of your earlier adventurous days.

Great background information and images, Amelia. I only had one ride in a Tiger Moth and it was indeed an enjoyable experience to remember.
