No no no. The cricket pavilion and grounds are flooded - again

SC170 - "No, no, no!"

The River Severn floods frequently, the water covering the flatter areas on the banks of the river. This flooding is relatively mild, and, in the past, the water has come over the top of the doors of the pavilion on the odd occasion. The centre of the town, where the council offices and theatre are, is protected by flood gates. This passes flooding problems onto the flood plains around the town, and then other towns are flooded lower down the stretch of the river. The highest flood levels recorded were in 1946.

This year the river levels have been very low, but are slowly recovering thanks to heavy rainfall in the Welsh hills where the source of the Severn is.

Und es wird in den nächsten Jahren sicher nicht besser. Auch wenn viele, besonders der Amerikanische König nicht daran glauben wollen. ***

Is that a lifebelt station on the cricket pitch, Amelia? It looks like you won't be hearing the sound of leather on willow for quite some time. All the best, Joe

Amelia replied to Joe, Son of the Rock:

The lifebelt station is on the riverbank, Joe.

In my country we say water always go back to the old ways… meaning we are the guilty ones for not respecting and thinking we could cover, divert…

Amelia replied to Xata:

I think there's a new thinking that flood plains should be more availble in order to prevent serious damage to more 'precious' areas. The cricket pitch is a useful flood plain. ;-) The cricket pitch seems to recover quite well, but a riverside bowling green never really recovers, and will permanently close sooner rather than later.
