Linlithgow Palace

The ruins of Linlithgow Palace are located in the town of Linlithgow, West Lothian, Scotland, 15 miles (24 km) west of Edinburgh. The palace was one of the principal residences of the monarchs of Scotland in the 15th and 16th centuries. Although maintained after Scotland's monarchs left for England in 1603, the palace was little used, and was burned out in 1746.

Mary, Queen of Scots, was born at Linlithgow Palace in December 1542 and lived at the palace for a time. There are good views of Linlithgow Loch from inside the ruins. Unfortunately half of the palace ruins were closed because of maintenance work and three outside sides of the place were covered in scaffolding.

This is a site I know well, Amelia. Unfortunately, the room in which, Mary, Queen of Scots was born collapsed many years ago. All the best, Joe

Beautiful ruins and interesting notes Amelia. In previous years we have found a lot of the monument were like this, closed or partially closed and with scaffolding in place. A shame but at least they are protecting them for future generations.
