The Falkirk Wheel is a rotating boat lift in Tamfourhill, Falkirk, in central Scotland, connecting the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal. It reconnects the two canals for the first time since the 1930s. It opened in 2002 as part of the Millennium Link project. The two canals served by the wheel were previously connected by a series of 11 locks.[With a 35-metre (115 ft) difference in height, it required 3,500 tonnes (3,400 long tons; 3,900 short tons) of water per run and took most of a day to pass through the flight.

Were you on a tour boat? Love the red of the life belts!

Amelia replied to Gudrun:

Yes, but we only took the short trip as it was so easy to walk up the hill to see the top of the canal, and the Roughcastle tunnel. The tour boats are so crowded, mostly older people and folks from abroad, and it was a rainy day so not easy to see out of the windows. I was lucky enough to be at the front, and the tour operator opened the front doors. Being almost entirely deaf I cannot hear the running commentary anyway, even with hearing aids, so I just looked out the front and enjoyed the views.

Gudrun replied to Amelia:

That certainly was the best option! I often find tour leaders' comments distracting and try to tune them out;-)
