Moorhen, Gallinula chloropus

The birds are very territorial during breeding season, and will fight with other members of their species, as well as other water birds such as ducks and coots, to drive them out of their territory. This bird had chased off quite a few contenders for territory, and I think the exposed white rump was an indication of aggression.

Yes.............moorhens do like a bit of a punch up and lately I've watching them do that in the mill pond near to where I live...........mainly with coots!

This is a super capture Amelia..............the feather detail is wonderful and I like the ripples and distorted reflections on the water. A nice little catch-light in the eye too, which makes such a difference.
