A well seen detail! It makes you wonder why they did it this way with the loop and all;-)

There is a very steep drop into a quarry behind this fence, so the wire needs to be sturdy. I think that all the twists and loops are there because the wire has been joined. It's so sturdy that the fence posts will break long before the wire.
