The whole thing is the air intake for a jet engine, Sarah, and you'll find these on the wings of jet planes. The centre part is the nose cone which is surrounded by the inlet guide vanes. I took this photo in Cosford Air Museum and this aircraft part was a separate entity on the floor in one of the hangars
