HFF to you all
The Iron Bridge that crosses the River Severn in Shropshire. Opened in 1781, it was the first major bridge in the world to be made of cast iron, and was greatly celebrated after construction owing to its use of the new material. Tolls for pedestrians were collected until 1950.
A 1923 reports suggested that the main span of the bridge was in poor condition, and the bridge should be used by vehicles no heavier than 2 tonnes. It is now closed to all but pedestrians and cyclists.
The PiP shows the toll charges.
