Report of the President on 2023

Dear members and friends of ipernity,

As has been the case when I wrote my last report, the world is no closer to peace. In fact since then more conflicts have broken out. At the same time, inflation remains persistent. On a bright spot though, a day after our 2024 IGA some here in North America will be treated to a solar eclipse, an event that will bring people together in much needed unity and for the right reasons – peaceful discourse and camaraderie, key attributes of our community. Consequently, as 2023 was a successful year for Ipernity, I expect nothing less for 2024.

Over the past year, our website continued to run trouble free for the most part as our IT team continued to work diligently to ensure consistent and reliable service. Furthermore, improvements have also been made to our format while a workable solution was implemented to address the photo replacement option. In addition, thanks to Ralph (RCW) and Rob Stamp, we are finally making progress towards upgrading the entire website to secure protocol (https) to match the SSL we presently have on every confidential page consisting of login, account, and personal information. If they succeed, our website will be visible on every major search engine so more people can discover us.

In addition, to enhance our exposure, Ipernity is now located on Google® Maps thanks to the efforts of our first president, Eric Desjours. With this information, one can see the location of our official address in France and read up on descriptions and reviews.

Since the transfer of the site from Ipernity S.A. to IMA on 1 September 2017 more than 3 million photos have been added to our platform. On average, this is more than 1500 uploads per day! It is heartening to see in spite of the challenges that affect this site and like-or-similar kind photo-sharing and social media sites, we remain an active and vibrant community. It is equally heartening to know that we have perhaps the greatest choice of options to maximize creative expression – photo-, video- and audio-sharing, blog capabilities that allow one to write articles and poetry while sharing images. It is also heartening to know that we are one of few sites that gives members the opportunity to share their works with enhanced exposure through a Gallery (Explore), an Ambassador Group, and our Home Page.

World Photography Day (19 August 2023) proved again to be a success as members from more than a dozen countries celebrated the gift of photography contributing images from all walks of life and geographic regions. Participation also increased by 40% from a year earlier.

In addition, with creativity being one of the most important attributes of our community, the exciting new technology of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has given members and friends alike more options with which to unleash their talents. Accordingly, as all kinds of creative expression is welcome in our community that was formed on the most part by photographers, it is important this new technology is embraced with the same inclusivity as other forms such as photos, videos, music, essays, poems, illustrations, scanned paintings and drawings, and podcasts.

At the same time, we are greatly privileged to be able to talk with people from around the world. With this in mind and the fact we are a global community with a diversity of languages and cultures, we are encouraging the transformation of groups into multi-lingual entities to improve searchability and the interactive experience. A special thanks goes to every admin who is participating in this initiative.

As we reflect on the recent past and look forward to challenges and hopes for 2024, I would ask that all of us take a moment to remember our newly departed members over the past year - Andy Rodker, Bob Taylor, Chimèle, Eve Chartier, Jenny McIntyre, Jonathan Cohen, neira-Dan, and tommes (Thomas Kauroff). Condolences and comments can be made on their in memoria pages.

Consistent with past years, with stable membership and a reliable revenue stream to meet our operating costs, I am pleased to announce there will be no dues increase. This is all made possible because of our loyal members and their generosity that has seen many keep our site and their fellow members in mind when making charitable donations and to all who selflessly give of their time to manage and operate this site. Without this voluntary commitment, our site would not be the successful, non-commercial, ad-free model that it is.

Challenges, though remain. If we are to remain a relevant, active and sustainable community, it is important we continue to attract new members. Acceptance of new and evolving technology, shared responsibility in publicizing our site, timely club renewals as well as group consolidations when necessary, are all some of the ways to accomplish this as we attempt to provide the best possible conditions. Nevertheless, I anticipate 2024 will be another successful year for Ipernity, look forward to viewing and sharing works that keep us a cohesive and vibrant community and wish everyone the best for health, prosperity and happiness and may the world find the will and courage to move toward greater peace.

Rapport du Président sur l'année 2023

Chers membres, amies et amis d'ipernity,

Comme c'était le cas lors de la rédaction de mon dernier rapport, le monde n'est pas plus proche de la paix. En fait, depuis lors, de nouveaux conflits ont éclaté. Dans le même temps, l'inflation reste persistante. Un point positif cependant : un jour après notre AGI 2024, certains ici en Amérique du Nord auront droit à une éclipse solaire, un événement qui rassemblera les gens dans une unité plus que nécessaire et pour les bonnes raisons - discours pacifique et camaraderie, des attributs clés de notre communauté. Par conséquent, comme 2023 a été une année fructueuse pour Ipernity, je n'en attends pas moins de 2024.

Au cours de l'année écoulée, notre site web a continué à fonctionner sans problème la plupart du temps, notre équipe informatique continuant à travailler avec diligence pour assurer un service cohérent et fiable. En outre, des améliorations ont été apportées à notre format et une solution viable a été mise en œuvre pour résoudre le problème de l'option de remplacement des photos. En outre, grâce à Ralph (RCW) et Rob Stamp, nous progressons enfin vers la mise à niveau de l'ensemble du site web vers le protocole sécurisé (https) pour correspondre au SSL dont nous disposons actuellement sur chaque page confidentielle contenant des informations de connexion, de compte et personnelles. S'ils y parviennent, notre site web sera visible sur tous les principaux moteurs de recherche, ce qui permettra à un plus grand nombre de personnes de nous découvrir.

De plus, afin d'améliorer notre visibilité, Ipernity est maintenant localisé sur Google® Maps grâce aux efforts de notre premier président, Eric Desjours. Grâce à cette information, il est possible de voir où se trouve notre adresse officielle en France et de lire les descriptions et les commentaires.

Depuis le transfert du site d'Ipernity S.A. à IMA le 1er septembre 2017, plus de 3 millions de photos ont été ajoutées à notre plateforme. En moyenne, cela représente plus de 1500 téléchargements par jour ! Il est réconfortant de voir qu'en dépit des défis qui affectent ce site et les sites de partage de photos et de médias sociaux de type similaire, nous restons une communauté active et dynamique. Il est tout aussi réconfortant de savoir que nous disposons peut-être du plus grand choix d'options pour maximiser l'expression créative - partage de photos, de vidéos et de fichiers audio, capacités de blog qui permettent d'écrire des articles et des poèmes tout en partageant des images. Il est également réconfortant de savoir que nous sommes l'un des rares sites à offrir à ses membres la possibilité de partager leurs œuvres avec une meilleure exposition grâce à une galerie (Explore), un Groupe d'Ambassadeurs et notre page d'accueil.

La Journée mondiale de la photographie (19 août 2023) a de nouveau été un succès : des membres de plus d'une douzaine de pays ont célébré le don de la photographie en apportant des images de tous les horizons et de toutes les régions géographiques. La participation a également augmenté de 40 % par rapport à l'année précédente.

En outre, la créativité étant l'un des attributs les plus importants de notre communauté, la nouvelle technologie passionnante de l'intelligence artificielle (IA) a donné aux membres et aux amis plus d'options pour donner libre cours à leurs talents. Par conséquent, comme tous les types d'expression créative sont les bienvenus dans notre communauté qui a été formée en grande partie par des photographes, il est important que cette nouvelle technologie soit accueillie avec la même inclusivité que d'autres formes telles que les photos, les vidéos, la musique, les essais, les poèmes, les illustrations, les peintures et les dessins numérisés, et les podcasts.

En même temps, nous avons le grand privilège de pouvoir parler avec des personnes du monde entier. C'est pourquoi nous encourageons la transformation des groupes en entités multilingues afin d'améliorer les capacités de recherche et l'expérience interactive. Un grand merci à tous les administrateurs qui participent à cette initiative.

Alors que nous passons en revue le passé récent et que nous nous réjouissons des défis et des espoirs pour 2024, j'aimerais que nous prenions tous un moment pour nous souvenir des membres qui nous ont quittés au cours de l'année écoulée : Andy Rodker, Bob Taylor, Chimèle, Eve Chartier, Jenny McIntyre, Jonathan Cohen, neira-Dan et tommes (Thomas Kauroff). Comme les années précédentes, avec un nombre de membres stable et un flux de revenus fiable pour couvrir nos frais de fonctionnement, j'ai le plaisir d'annoncer qu'il n'y aura pas d'augmentation des cotisations. Tout cela est rendu possible grâce à nos membres fidèles et à leur générosité, qui ont pensé à notre site et à leurs confrères lorsqu'ils font des dons, ainsi qu'à tous ceux qui, de manière désintéressée, donnent de leur temps pour gérer et faire fonctionner ce site. Sans cet engagement volontaire, notre site ne serait pas le modèle de réussite non commercial et sans publicité qu'il est.

Il reste cependant des défis à relever. Si nous voulons rester une communauté pertinente, active et durable, il est important que nous continuions à attirer de nouveaux membres. L'acceptation de technologies nouvelles et en évolution, le partage des responsabilités dans la promotion de notre site, le renouvellement des cotisations en temps voulu ainsi que la consolidation des groupes lorsque cela est nécessaire, sont autant de moyens d'y parvenir, tout en essayant d'offrir les meilleures conditions possibles. Quoi qu'il en soit, je prévois que 2024 sera une nouvelle année de succès pour Ipernity, j'ai hâte de voir et de partager les œuvres qui nous permettent de rester une communauté soudée et dynamique et je souhaite à tous santé, prospérité et bonheur, et que le monde trouve la volonté et le courage d'avancer vers une plus grande paix.

Bericht des Präsidenten über das Jahr 2023

Liebe Mitglieder, Freundinnen und Freunde von ipernity,

wie bei meinem letzten Bericht ist die Welt dem Frieden nicht näher gekommen. Ganz im Gegenteil! Seither sind neue Konflikte entbrannt. Außerdem hält sich die Inflation hartnäckig. Ein kleiner Lichtblick ist jedoch, dass am Tag nach dieser IGA 2024 hier in Nordamerika eine Sonnenfinsternis stattfinden wird - ein Ereignis, das die Menschen in der so dringend benötigten Einigkeit zusammenbringen wird, und zwar aus den richtigen Gründen: friedlicher Diskurs und Kameradschaft, den Schlüsseleigenschaften einer jeden Gemeinschaft. Da 2023 ein erfolgreiches Jahr für Ipernity war, erwarte ich nichts weniger für 2024.

Im vergangenen Jahr lief unsere Website weitgehend störungsfrei, da unser IT-Team sehr darauf bedacht war, einen konsistenten und zuverlässigen Service zu gewährleisten. Außerdem wurden weitere Verbesserungen an unserer Benutzeroberfläche vorgenommen. Hervorzuheben ist in diesem Zusammenhang die Wiederbelebung der Funktion zum Ersetzen bereits hochgeladener Fotos durch Updates. Erwähnenswert ist außerdem, dass wir dank des großen Engagements von Ralph (RCW) und Rob Stamp endlich Fortschritte bei der Umstellung unserer gesamten Website auf das verschlüsselte Übertragungsprotokoll (https) machen, das wir bisher nur für die Unterseiten mit vertraulichen Inhalten verwenden (Login, Kontoverwaltung und Pflege der persönliche Daten) verwenden. Wenn diese Umstellung gelingt, wird unsere Website wieder in allen wichtigen Suchmaschinen sichtbar sein, so dass uns mehr Menschen finden können.

Darüber hinaus ist Ipernity dank der Bemühungen unseres ehemaligen Präsidenten Eric Desjours jetzt auch auf Google® Maps zu finden. So kann man beispielsweise sehen, wo sich unsere offizielle Adresse in Frankreich befindet und Beschreibungen und Bewertungen nachlesen.

Seit der Übernahme der Website von Ipernity S.A. in die Verantwortung unseres Vereins am 1. September 2017 wurden mehr als 3 Millionen neue Inhalte auf unsere Plattform hochgeladen. Im Durchschnitt sind das mehr als 1500 Uploads pro Tag! Es ist ermutigend zu sehen, dass wir trotz der großen Herausforderungen, vor der wir wie alle ähnlichen Foto-Sharing-Seiten stehen, eine aktive und lebendige Gemeinschaft bleiben. Ebenso ermutigend ist es zu wissen, dass wir womöglich die größte Auswahl an Optionen haben, um den kreativen Ausdruck unserer Mitglieder zu maximieren: Foto-, Video- und Audio-Sharing, sowie Blog-Funktionen, die es erlauben, Artikel oder Gedichte zu schreiben, während man Bilder teilt. Es ist auch ermutigend zu wissen, dass wir eine der wenigen Websites sind, die ihren Mitgliedern die Möglichkeit bietet, ihre Werke durch eine Galerie (Explore), eine Ambassador-Gruppe und unsere Homepage.

Der Weltfototag (19. August 2023) erwies sich erneut als Erfolg. Mitglieder aus mehr als einem Dutzend Ländern feierten das Geschenk der Fotografie mit Bildern aus allen Bereichen des Lebens und allen Teilen der Welt. Im Vergleich zum Vorjahr stieg die Beteiligung um 40%.

Da Kreativität eine der wichtigsten Qualitäten unserer Gemeinschaft ist, hat uns die aufregende neue Technologie der künstlichen Intelligenz (KI) zusätzliche Möglichkeiten eröffnet, unsere Talente zu entfalten. Und obwohl unsere Community hauptsächlich aus Fotografen besteht, ist es wichtig, dass wir diese neue Technologie mit derselben Offenheit annehmen, wie wir es schon immer mit Videos, Musik, Essays, Gedichten, Illustrationen, eingescannten Gemälden und Zeichnungen sowie Podcasts getan haben.

Dabei ist es für uns ein großes Privileg, mit Menschen aus der ganzen Welt kommunizieren zu können. Vor diesem Hintergrund und der Tatsache, dass wir eine globale Gemeinschaft mit einer Vielzahl von Sprachen und Kulturen sind, fördern wir die Einrichtung mehrsprachiger Gruppen ausdrücklich, um die Auffindbarkeit und das interaktive Erlebnis zu verbessern. Ein besonderer Dank geht an alle Administratoren, die sich an dieser Initiative beteiligen.

An dieser Stelle, wo wir auf die jüngste Vergangenheit blicken und uns den Herausforderungen und Aussichten für das Jahr 2024 zuwenden, möchte ich uns alle bitten, unserer im vergangenen Jahr verstorbenen Mitglieder zu gedenken: Andy Rodker, Bob Taylor, Chimèle, Eve Chartier, Jenny McIntyre, Jonathan Cohen, neira-Dan und tommes (Thomas Kauroff). Beileidsbekundungen und Kommentare können auf den In-Memoria-Seiten dieser Mitglieder abgegeben werden.

Da unsere relativ stabile Mitgliederzahl verlässliche Einnahmen zur Deckung unserer Betriebskosten generiert, freue ich mich, verkünden zu können, dass es vorerst keine Beitragserhöhung geben wird. Neben der Treue unserer langjährigen Mitglieder und den Spenden, die wir erhalten, trägt auch das große ehrenamtliche Engagement einiger Mitglieder dazu bei, dass wir unsere Mitgliedsbeiträge vergleichsweise niedrig halten können. Ohne dieses ehrenamtliche Engagement wäre unsere Website nicht das erfolgreiche, nicht-kommerzielle und werbefreie Modell, das sie ist.

Die Herausforderungen bleiben jedoch bestehen. Wenn wir eine relevante, aktive und nachhaltige Gemeinschaft bleiben wollen, ist es wichtig, weiterhin neue Mitglieder zu gewinnen. Um dies zu erreichen, müssen wir die bestmöglichen Bedingungen schaffen. Dazu gehört die Akzeptanz neuer und sich entwickelnder Technologien ebenso wie die gemeinsame Verantwortung für die gute Pflege unserer Gruppen. Wo es sinnvoll ist, sollten wir bestehende Gruppen zusammenlegen und nicht mehr benötigte Gruppen löschen, um unsere Website übersichtlicher und attraktiver zu gestalten.

Ich bin zuversichtlich, dass 2024 ein weiteres erfolgreiches Jahr für Ipernity sein wird. Ich freue mich darauf, weiterhin neue kreative Inhalte zu entdecken und zu teilen, die uns als Gemeinschaft lebendig erhalten. Ich wünsche allen das Beste für Gesundheit, Wohlstand und Glück, und möge die Welt den Willen und den Mut finden, sich für mehr Frieden einzusetzen.
