What to do with "extra" cameras...

With numerous cameras around, it might be obvious there are a few I don't use very often.  Like my 100 year old Agfa 5X7 view camera.  So far I have taken two photos with it, just to test things out.  Neither turned out very well.

I'm not using my D70 much either.  The only time I use it is when I need to use the IR remote, which does not work with the D200.  In other words; not very often.

So when I today came across some information about a company called LifePixel, I decided it would be a good idea to convert the D70 to IR.  It does not look that complicated, and $145 for the IR filter is not expensive compared to having Nikon repair something.  The only problem appears to be finding a Phillips screwdriver small enough for those tiny little screws, and even that should be possible.  I even used to have one once.

With so many cameras I think it is necessary to have one for infrared photography.  And in IR, maybe Iowa will finally look like the alien place it really is?

If I can figure out how to buy one, maybe. I had a set that would have worked, but they were not very good quality and with time they broke or got stripped out. They were from Radio Shack.

how small are they?

SuperMarina replied to Jason Elkins:

You mean the screws? Just slightly smaller than the smallest screwdriver I can get from Sears. In other words, awfully tiny. About 2.5 mm across, maybe.

SuperMarina replied to Jason Elkins:

Yeah, I found screwdrivers. And broke the tips of two of them in the process of converting the D70. But I did get the job done, even though I had to take the camera apart twice because of a ribbon cable that didn't want to reconnect correctly.
And I did post one IR shot, here.

not sure how i missed that. Where did you end up finding the sizes you needed?

I found some at Radio Shack. And I used the small straight ones from Sears instead of the tiny little phillips screwdrivers that apparently doesn't exist. I broke two of them, but I think I can take them in and trade them for new ones, since they are Craftsman.
Now if I could just find the nearest Sears store!
