Vacuum clean your pocket camera!
Yes, you read right! A very annoying dust particle appeared inside my Canon G5x camera lens. And since it is a compact camera, there is no way to remove the lens to get it cleaned by my own. Or so I thought...

I was desperate, because sending it to service to get it cleaned would very likely cost several hundred euros.

Luckily we have Google... I searched with string "dust particle inside canon g5x", and found out an Youtube video showing how to clean pretty similar G7x. So, thanks to Cristi Kerekes I got it fixed. See the video below for detailed instructions.

One just have to be patient, and use the vacuum cleaner for long enough. Also try to hold the vacuum cleaner pipe close to joints of the zoom rings.

And now I am going to give the same treatment to my older Lumix compact camera. Very likely this works for other gear as well. So, if you have annoying dust particles inside your DSLR lenses, you can try this trick.

And if you want to make some more thorough cleaning, you may consider removing some parts, and even drill holes for it! On the second video vlogger JaYoe Nation shows how to do that for Canon G7x. Pretty scary procedure it is though!

Finally do remember this old advice on how to avoid most of the dust, if treating the pocket camera as a pocket camera, and carrying it around inside your overcoat pocket. There are often surprisingly lot of fabric dust inside pockets, which will then get inside your camera. It may eventually even ruin all the electronics. So, slip your camera inside a small plastic bag first. Once you get used to it, it will become easy enough procedure, and keeps your camera at least cleaner than without such protecting plastic bag.

A superb link that will probably work for all fixed lens cameras. Thank you Sami.

You are welcome =)

It may work for DSLR lenses as well. Or somewhat any similar gear. The bottom line is that where it goes in, it may also come out from the same way =D
