Grad filter - is it cheating?

Back in the days of printing from film, it was common for a photographer to distribute the light unevenly, to accentuate detail on one part of a picture or another, or to enhance the exposure in darker areas. Now we can do this in a moment with grad filter software and it makes a huge difference - but it feels like cheating, perhaps just because it is so easy.

One cannot compare with the old system, but foget it and get on with our time! They are only tools to make images the way we like them to be. Photographs are not reality any more! They are like paintings, where you can use your artistic side and create!! I like to get all images right "in camera", and never use photoshop at all except for straigtening horizons etc. But others completely change them, which to my mind makes them look artificial. Each one to his own!
