Movie Moment - Transformers: Dark of the Moon
I seem to remember people coming down hard on Transformers: Dark of the Moon, but now that I've seen it I'm not entirely sure why. It may be that those that have followed a particular story-line in the franchise's history were upset of some of the choices made film. Myself, I don't really care about any of the deviations, and probably couldn't point out 90% of them anyway.
The movie does follow the typical, cookie-cutter, summer action movie formula, but it does it successfully. It's not the greatest action movie that there ever was and the plot-twists are about as twisty as a ruler, but it's entertaining and it's definitely better than the second installment. I think the fact that they seem to make it more about the Transformers and their war helped a lot. There was a much better focus on the action and giving the giant robots their screen-time. It's not a perfect movie. The effort put into the animation seems a little rushed at times and there's inconsistencies in the events, but it's not like this movie was really going to be an Oscar contender anyway. It was fun. There were lots of mindless fights and who couldn't love John Malkovich? He added a fresh and much appreciated source of humour.
Robots get ripped apart and big things blow up; what more can you really ask for? I figure that if you liked the first one you'll probably like this one; unless of course you're still in an unforgiving mood after the second one or just like picking on Michael Bay for being Michael Bay.
