I saw Inception this past week; it's a very good movie. I must admit that I did fall victim to hype however, because it wasn't the mind blowing experience I was preparing myself for. Still, it has a great story, great cast, and was very well made even with a few twist and turns that I could see coming despite my attempts to lose myself in the moment and not think about the next steps (as I tend to enjoy doing in movies). Regardless of that, it's a definite recommendation-to-see from myself. Nolan does a great job at keeping a disjointed storyline so cohesive (not unlike Memento). I'll keep the rest of my thoughts to myself, as not to provide any spoilers.
I also watch The Book of Eli recently. It's set in a post apocalyptic world where Eli (Denzel Washington) is on a quest to bring the book he carries West. Carnegie (Gary Oldman) is the oppressive leader of a small town who also wants the book for his own, self righteous purposes. Both actors do a great job, albeit jobs we've seen them do before. Mila Kunis plays a woman named Solara, and where a strong presence is expected from Washington and Oldman, she presented a surprisingly impressive performance.
It's not a pure action movie, but the action it does deliver is fast and slick with fights consisting of both the melee and gun variety. When the action subsides it fills the spaces interesting characters and well portrayed settings. It also broaches the subject of faith in a way I can't remember seeing in recent films. This sparked a whole different set of thoughts, but maybe that's for another time to share.
Like Inception, I enjoyed it and would recommend seeing it.
Both films get the same rating from me:
