Alright, it really wasn't bad as far as summer movies go, where you have to walk in to it with your brains turned off. It was a bunch of explosions and special effects thrown at you through a storyline that was attempting to be too intricate for the context at hand. The acting was fitting to the genre, but there's no surprise that Oscar nominations for it weren't being handed out.

I wouldn't say that I enjoyed it, but I think that's just because I'm not into this kind of movie anymore. If you like over-the-top action scenes with lots of people shooting at each other, then there's a good chance you should see this movie. As for myself, I think I was just curious to see what they were going to do with the license.

I was never a huge GI Joe fan when it came to the cartoon. I enjoyed the toys, but never got into the lore of it's world. I guess that lead my mind into creating much of my own scenarios to play out when I was a kid, and expecting the movie to match up to that is really silly. How in the world could the writers know how I used to play with the toys?

The first half of the movie also didn't really feel like it was using the G.I. Joe License to it's full capabilities. It did seem to get better in the second half, but there were some disappointments.

Destro was my favourite bad guy as a kid, and he doesn't get his trademark look until the end of the movie. Cobra's half-a-mask that he had on for the majority of the movie didn't suit him, nor did his new mask that he got at the end. And how do you put the Joes in a polar region without letting Snow Job drive in a WOLF?

I also don't like movies that set it up so there HAS to be a sequel. I don't mind hinting at a sequel, but I also like my movies to have a definitive ending without a bunch of loose ends.

With that said, I did like a few items of choice. I was glad to see Scarlet still had a mini-crossbow of sorts. It was cool to see the Night Raven jet (I had that toy). Snake Eyes lived up to expectations; I mean even I can appreciate the chase through the streets of France. Ray Park must be a terrible actor though. Either that or I just haven't seen enough of his movies. Every movie I have seen him in he barely has any words if any at all. Darth Maul, Toad, the... assassin guy in Ecks Vs. Sever, and the Headless Horseman double in Sleepy Hollow. And now Snake Eyes. He can move, no doubt, but all his dialogue from all those movies combined could fit on to one page. And that's if it was double-spaced. The poor guy never gets any lines.

Anyway... So was the movie good? As far as action movies go that's based on intellectual property originally designed for children... yeah it was okay. It had Saturday-morning-fun with a budget-on-steroids feeling to it; so I guess it did what it was supposed to do. If you like watching people trying to kill each other and things blowing up, and are not concerned with top notch acting or an inventive story, then you'll probably enjoy yourself. If you're hoping to relive the glory days of G.I. Joe, I have no idea how you'll react.
