Of course the prime purpose of these sites is to share what one has done. But the eye of the photographer is influenced by the work of others, and particularly the work of the amateur, by professionals and artists traditionnally published in books.
This raises another question: what is the future of the photography book in the age of the internet ? Every artist, every professional has its own website where his work is displayed. But as far as I know, few have abandoned the idea of publishing books. In English, apart from the British Journal of Photography, few magazines review photography books. As for blogs, and web sites, I have not found many to do such things. Why is that ? I have no clue.
This will not discourage me to modestly try to change this a bit and write about some books I like.
