Henry Did It
This past week has been a mixed bag. The supermarket I work at is in the habit of moving managers around so that they don't get 'too comfortable.' Our store manager left some time ago, and it was sad to see them go. This week, for reasons unknown to me at least, they've come back. Yay! I didn't much care for the replacement and they very obviously had favourites, so it's great that the 'old' manager has returned.

Wednesday, I was vacuuming the ceiling in the hallway, trying to get rid of cobwebs. A definite down-side of high ceilings; the spiders love them! Anyway, it was going well until I looked down, lost my balance, and fell over Henry. I cursed rather loudly and my son came rushing downstairs to find me sat on the hallway floor waiting for my head to stop spinning. D*mn vertigo! Not had it that bad in years. My leg, almost immediately, started to bruise and I have a big gash too from Henry's handle. The bruise is now about 3 inches long by 2 inches wide and a lovely shade lol. Could have been worse...

Friday morning, after a nice lie-in, I was watching a video of a mummy elephant and her calf being rescued from a muddy ditch. Honestly, it brought tears of joy to my eyes when they finally managed to rescue them both. I'm a soppy soul at heart.

These next few days we're on a Red heat alert for this area. Good grief! I worked a 7 hour shift on Saturday, that was hot, and a 6 hour shift on Sunday which was even hotter. On my way home, I could see it was 27C which is hot for the UK, and set to be even hotter on Monday and Tuesday. I'm fervently hoping the rain forecast for Wednesday happens.

I had planned to call this blog WooHoo as I should now be on leave for a total of 9 days. However, I was asked to work Monday, just a 4 hour shift as overtime, and I agreed. Seriously, I'm stashing as much cash as possible for when my gas and electric bills more than double in September, then go up again in October. The amount we're being charged at this time is outragious, especially when some of them are recording massive profits. Of course they have massive profits, they're ripping us off! Brief rant... LMAO

Next month my car insurance and breakdown payments are due, swiftly followed by the car tax. We don't get paid monthly, we get paid every 4 weeks, so every year we have 13 payments. I ensure that each month covers the bills, so that the 13th payment covers the car bills. Perfect!

Well, that's it. Working Monday as mentioned above. I just hope they don't try and make me stay. I want to be home safely before the day gets too hot.

Take care if you're out and about over the next couple of days. Keep hydrated, keep covered, and keep safe and well.

I'm afraid you're going to have to accept that you mustn't climb ladders or go up steps to vacuum the ceiling anymore. If you have vertigo - it's a definite no-no. You could damage yourself badly and then what happens???

Yes it has gone really hot now - it's 30C at 6.40pm!! Apparently it'll peak tomorrow then we'll have thunder, which should clear the air. On Friday I had a call from the local council to inform me that I was eligible for the payment from them towards the cost of the rise in electricity etc. My electricity has risen by £100 a month but I'm only eligible for the cost of living of £350 per year!!! Yes it'll help somewhat, but it's not going to help with everything else I can't see why electricity has almost doubled, and yet there's more to come! Okay my rant is over now.

You look after yourself, especially when out and about - at least I stay indoors and am in a draught!!!

Thanks Jenny. I was standing the floor, and using an extension hose on the vacuum, that's what makes it so daft. I think I'd been looking up too long and made myself feel dizzy when I then looked down again. Daft of me.

I would have thought you'd be eligible for more than that. You should get at least the £400 later in the year from the gas/electric suppliers. Keep an eye out for that Jenny. Every household should get that £400 at least, then some others get more depending on their circumstances. Did you get the £150 from the council tax?

I'm not sure of what amount I'm eligible for. I'll have to check them.

Yes that does seem to be strange, falling over Henry, when you were just standing on the floor - but I completely understand that - I can't walk around without holding onto something to stead myself. Daft isn't it?

Who or what is Henry and why did he get in your way? Rude sot. Be careful. Vertigo can be so dangerous.
That is quite warm especially by you with no air conditioning. We’re expecting averages of 33 for the next week. Yuk.

Thanks Gracie. Sorry, Henry is well-known brand of vacuum cleaner - in the UK at least.
By the time I came home at 10.30am, it was already 27C. I don't care for it...

Ouch ! my sympathies, Fran.
Tripping over " our 'enry" isn't unknown here, either ! I have one at home and several old & rebuilt ones at the workshop. All of which work very hard, but relatively quietly. I don't like very noisy vacuum cleaners, the Henry brand is the only one for which I don't need to wear ear defenders.
Vertigo is quite annoying, to say the least. I know that from experience as there are several friends / colleagues who have had bouts with it, and from their descriptions of the symptoms, I wonder if I have it as well.

I love hot & sunny weather, provided I can get into cool shade when I want. Also, I have found that keeping my head cool is the trick to being comfortable - as well as staying hydrated.

Back when I worked on a certain narrow-gauge railway, the "hot weather rule" was for the buffet steward to take one pint of liquid [non-alcoholic] to each member of the footplate crew at top station, and watch them drink it all. As the train guard, I did the same - in my case, diluted orange or blackcurrant cordial was the drink of choice.

These days, I work on a non-alcoholic liquid consumption rate of approximately one pint per hour plus a number of cool-down breaks. The danger sign is if you stop sweating !

Today I have two appointments, one in the middle of Newcastle upon Tyne ... and on Sunday I was in Sussex "crawling over, in and under various railway vehicles" ie inspecting them regarding potential restoration, which was a very hot experience.

Thanks Sara. The bruise is going down, though the graze is taking longer to heal than I'd like. I was more careful recently when vacuuming the kitchen ceiling prior to painting the walls very soon.

I drank so much this past 2 days. Like my Mother, I don't sweat much at all and that has it's downside in that I overheat too easily.

That must have been very hot work!
