Frankfurt - Luminale 2018: Snow White

The Snow White Monument lies like a hidden jewel in the Taunusanlage - a treasure to be carefully lifted from its sunken state. The position of Snow White's head is unusual – contrary to the usual depictions, she is turning her gaze away, seemingly introverted. Our Snow White no longer waits for the prince – she is modern and defies social conventions.

Layer for layer, the traditional paintings and clichés are replaced by sculpture and contrasted with abstract, generative animation. Elements of Grimm's narrative glide over the stone sculpture – snow, blood, ebony, the pulsating heart, or the shattering glass coffin – yet a new image emerges beneath!

The projection mapping is underscored by a sound collage of delicate electronic sounds, interwoven with vocal fragments and scraps of dialogue. Like the visual plane, it formally recedes, enveloping visitors, to nest between trees and walls, creeping into the cracks and crevices.
