Potosí, Bolivia

Founded 1545, and 4,060 meters above sea level in the Andes. This is part of the UNESCO listed city...its colonial centre. In the sixteenth century it had 160,000 inhabitants and was the major supplier of silver for the Spanish Empire. Millions of slaves died over the period of colonial silver extraction and minting in the city.

"Millions of slaves died over the period of colonial silver extraction and minting in the city." Inconceivable. When the insatiable greed for power and wealth clouds the human mind...
Impressive documentation, Diana!

A charm seems to emanate from these places forgotten by the time.
May be the Photography refines senses and gives the ability to see the world through new eyes.

PS I know this is a romantic statement. Still it is true to a viewer not to one who actually lives in here! :o(
