Smart cephalopod

As part of our group reunion, we visited the National Marine Science Centre where we were given a conducted tour. I was fascinated to learn that invertebrates do not have brains similar to vertebrates, but still can be surprisingly clever: this octopus has just removed the screw cap (note) from a jar containing food (note). Our dogs would not even contemplate trying! Of course, a musical link helps. :-)

I've read about the intelligence of octopuses. Nice to see such a good example.

Larry has just said what I was going to say! But I think it was the 2010 World Cup in South Africa with Paul the Octopus, Larry! I know time passes by quickly when we are having fun!

I wouldn't want to touch this one:-) Very clever, but then food is a strong incentive.
