Bowling Railway Station (Lanarkshire and Dumbartonshire Railway) (Disused)

Architect: James Miller

James Miller FRSE FRIBA FRIAS RSA (1860–1947) was a Scottish architect, recognised for his commercial architecture in Glasgow and for his Scottish railway stations. Quoted from Wikipedia

The Lanarkshire and Dumbartonshire Railway was a railway company in Scotland. It was promoted independently but supported by the Caledonian Railway, and it was designed to connect Balloch (on Loch Lomond) and Dumbarton with central Glasgow, linking in heavy industry on the north bank of the River Clyde. From Dumbarton to Balloch the line would have closely duplicated an existing railway, and negotiation led to the latter being made jointly operated, and the L&DR terminated immediately east of Dumbarton, trains continuing on the joint section. There are so many remains of railways, tunnels, viaducts and stations. Interesting to know the history behind them.

I can remember when steam trains, and latterly diesels, ran on this line, Jean. This station closed two years before I was born. Thanks for your very kind comment. All the best, Joe

When was it disused, Joe?
I'm interested in his name as I thought the usual Miller varient in Scots English is Millar.
In some ways I'm pleased to see that it is still in use!

Joe, Son of the Rock replied to Andy Rodker:

This station opened on 1st October 1896, and closed 1st January 1917. It then reopened in August 1917, and finally closed on 5th February 1951. I know people in Scotland who are called Miller and Millar. I appreciate you very kind comment, Andy. All the best, Joe

Doesn't really look like a train station.

Thanks for your very kind comment, Jaap. I think this looks like a typical station designed by the architect, James Miller. Cheers, Joe

At least it is being used for something now Joe. I was going to say the same as Percy. Nature soon reclaims it! Cheers, Rosa.
