In 1865 William Chafyn Grove of Zeals House provided four almshouses in Flemish bond brick on a stone rubble plinth. An inscription tablet records their foundation in memory of his mother. The almshouses are now 1,2,3, and 4 Chafyn Grove Cottages.
The angle from which you have photographed the alms-houses, Rosa, makes an excellent perspective. There are lots of great textures in the brickwork. The style of architecture is reassuringly old fashioned. Cheers, Joe
The various building materials have weathered nicely over the passing years, I wonder how many lived there when they were new, certainly easier on the eye than the monstrosity being built across the road from me !! I hope you have a nice day Rosalyn. it's cloudy but mild
