Bruton Dovecote

The Bruton Dovecote is a limestone tower that was built between the 15th and 17th century in Bruton, Somerset. The structure was once used as a dovecote, and may have been a watchtower or prospect tower prior to this. It is a Grade II* listed building and scheduled monument.

Wonderful scenery, an unusual Dove Cote the shape would make collecting the squabs difficult, no rotating ladder, also having windows. I hope that you have a good week Rosalyn

Amazing how this looks like a Scottish broch, rather than a Wessex dovecote! Lovely shot.

A beautifully composed shot of this tower against a lovely sky. Scottish brochs are all round double walled structures and much older. This looks similar to pele towers. Peel towers (also spelt pele) are small fortified keeps or tower houses, built along the English and Scottish borders in the Scottish Marches and North of England, intended as watch towers where signal fires could be lit by the garrison to warn of approaching danger. They often had no windows at ground level which is different.
