Lovely view of the old city, I have never visited Salisbury but this reminded me of Totnes in Devon, as I recall it has a similar archway.

It's a long time since I visited Totnes, but I think you are right.

A lovely street scene, although a place of sanctuary they took good care to barricade themselves in a traveller arriving at night would have to take their chance in the town. When Leicester became a city the church that became the cathedral was not the first choice but the preferred one was just outside the city walls
