Lychgate at Downton ~ St Laurence Church

Along with my daughter and brother I have been tracing our ancestry on my mother's side of the family, which took us unexpectedly to Downton, Wiltshire. We wanted to make sure we were following the correct line so went grave hunting! We were very lucky to find a corner of the churchyard devoted to 'Gwyer' graves dating back to the late 1700's and they did indeed fit with what we had found out.

A great collection of nicely framed and composed images from your hunt Rosa - It must be exciting when you fined something that indicates that you are on the right track.

Best regards, Doug

It has been very exciting Doug. My daughter Michelle has done most of the hard work and found so much that we didn't know. Thank you for your kind comments.
Best wishes, Rosa.

Rosalyn Hilborne replied to John Goodwin:

It was John. Many surprises and hard work done by Michelle as the people who transcribe the documents make a lot of mistakes and some guess work if they cannot read it properly. When there are wills left it helps a lot with dates etc. Thanks for your great comments....Rosa.

Lucky you are, Rosa ! Genealogical research requires a lot of patience, but what a joy when it leads to tangible result ...

There was a stumbling block Pat but my daughter's hard work and detective work got there eventually!!

A lovely set of church yard images Rosalyn, I have never tried looking for relatives but I can see it could be addictive, I did find an uncle for an elderly lady I know she just knew that he had been killed in WW1, I think she bored everybody stiff when I gave her the information

Nice series Rosa, good to have traced some definitive ancestral proof; I have been researching mine and a few others, on and off for the past ten years, can absorb a lot of time!
