Reddish House ~ Broad Chalke

Also known as Reddish Manor it was the home of Cecil Beaton, photographer and designer. His photographs of Queen Elizabeth II became among the most widely published portraits of the twentieth century. He lived here from 1947 until his death in 1980. Later it became the home of Toyah Wilcox and her husband Robert Fripp (King Crimson's guitarist) for many years.

Lovely house, sad though about Cecil Beaton- died so young.

Rosalyn Hilborne replied to HappySnapper:

I think he was around 80 when he died but it was from 1947 that he bought this house. The house he lived in before that he had rented but is now owned by Guy Richie.

Hey Rosa, Ive come now to this shot, and I see these trees/bushes? pruned in these unique shapes, as in the one to the right of the gate... and how a vine? ivy? is cropped there on the brick of the building...BUT NOW, Im just amazed at the roof of the smaller building to the left of the main one. ??? That is just amazing to me, how do those roofs last in that state of neglect? so interesting!!! the blue iron gates/fences caught my eye also. regards, Sarah YS

Rosalyn Hilborne replied to Sarah O':

Not sure what it is that is climbing on the left Sarah. I'm not very up on their names! They could do with getting the moss of that roof on the left though ;-) Thanks for your kind comments and YS. Best wishes, Rosa.

Beautiful scenery and lovely house Rosa... Did you put a bit of HDR in this picture or is it out of the camera as it is? I love it...

I've kept up with all the name dropping so far but confess to drawing a blank at Guy Ritchie! Sorry.
A super house and capture!
